Amphoe Thalang ( Thai : อำเภอ ถลาง ) is a district ( Amphoe - administrative district) in the north of the province of Phuket . The province of Phuket is located in the southern region of Thailand .
geography
The district of Thalang borders in the southeast on Amphoe Mueang Phuket and in the southwest on Amphoe Kathu , to the north lies Amphoe Takua Thung in the province of Phang Nga , which can be reached via a bridge over the Pak Prah Strait .
history
Thalang is the historic center of Phuket Province known as Mueang Thalang. The governor had the title Phraya Thalang ( พระยา ถลาง ) at that time . The current district of Thalang was not established until 1898.
traffic
The Phuket International Airport is located in the district of Thalang. The main highway is Highway 402, which runs in a north-south direction from the bridge over the Pak Prah Strait to Phuket Town.
Attractions
- National Museum Thalang - is located near the battlefield of the "Battle of Thalang", in which in 1785 the women of Thalang routed the Burmese army. Antiquities from Phuket's long history are on display.
- Wat Phra Thong ( Temple of the Golden Buddha ) - Buddhist temple ( Wat ) with a half-buried golden Buddha statue
- Khao Phra Thaeo Nature Park - 22 km² park with all kinds of wild animals and the Ton Sai and Bang Pae waterfalls; Release station for white-handed gibbons ( Hylobates lar ) - see web links.
- Sirinat National Park - 90 km² national park near the airport, with mangrove forest near Ta Chatchai on Phuket's northernmost point

The district has six municipalities ( tambon ) , which in turn are divided into 46 village communities ( muban ) .

Local administration
There are four small towns ( Thesaban Tambon ) in the county:
- Choeng Thale ( เทศบาล ตำบล เชิง ทะเล ) consists of parts of the Tambon Choeng Thale.
- Thep Krasatti ( เทศบาล ตำบล เทพ กระษัตรี ) consists of parts of the tambon Thep Krasatti.
- Si Sunthon ( เทศบาล ตำบล ศรี สุนทร ) consists of the whole tambon Si Sunthon.
- Pa Khlok ( เทศบาล ตำบล ป่า คลอก ) consists of the whole tambon Pa Khlok.
There are also four “tambon administrative organizations” (TAO, องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ) for the tambon or the parts of tambon in the county that do not belong to any town.
