Official sign

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An official sign is a sign that is used by authorities to identify the place of work. It is usually placed at the entrance to the building. In addition to the authorities, freelance notaries and publicly appointed surveyors in Germany are also entitled to use an official badge with the corresponding state coat of arms .

Germany

Federal agencies

For federal authorities in Germany, the design is regulated in the decree on the official signs of the federal authorities of 1951 . In addition to the direct federal authorities, such as federal ministries , authorities of the Federal Armed Forces , Federal Police and Customs , only the Federal Employment Agency may carry the official shield of the federal authorities . All other legally competent federal corporations , institutions and foundations under public law are generally not entitled to do so. However, in cases of doubt, the Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Building and Home Affairs, decides on the authorization to use the official badge in consultation with the responsible ministers.

The official sign of the federal authorities in Germany shows the federal eagle , underneath the name of the authority is written without the location. The shield is rectangular. Oval official signs with a central federal eagle are used abroad. The eagle is circumscribed by the word “Federal Republic of Germany” and the name of the authorities (for example “Embassy”). The oval signs were already used in the German Reich for foreign offices since the establishment of the Reich.

Baden-Württemberg

In Baden-Wuerttemberg, the small state coat of arms and, underneath, the name of the department without the location is used on official signs. Authorities that are allowed to use the large state coat of arms (government, prime minister, ministries, representation of the state at the federal level and in European affairs, state court, supreme courts of the state, audit office and regional councils) can also use the large state coat of arms on official signs.
