Amy Jacques Garvey

Amy Jacques Garvey (born December 31, 1895 in Kingston , Jamaica ; † July 25, 1973 , ibid) was a journalist and an important pioneer of the pan-African movement.

Life

Garvey was born in Jamaica and moved to the United States in 1917 . There she met her future husband, Marcus Garvey , and together with him led the work of the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA), of which she later became chairman. She was the editor of The Negro World newspaper, published by the organization .

Amy Jacques Garvey was included in the Daughters of Africa anthology published in 1992 by Margaret Busby in London and New York.
