Michael Nattrass (born December 14, 1945 in Leeds , Yorkshire ) is a British politician ( UKIP ) and from the European elections 2004 to 2014 member of the European Parliament .

Nattrass began his political career in the New Britain Party , for which he ran in a by-election for a seat in the British House of Commons in 1994 , but could only unite 146 votes. In the 1997 parliamentary elections, Nattrass stood for the eurosceptic referendum party , but again unsuccessfully. Eventually he joined the UK Independence Party (UKIP), for which he entered the European Parliament as the top candidate for the West Midlands constituency in the 2004 European elections . In 2008 he ran again in a by-election to the British House of Commons, in which he came with 922 votes to around 2.2%. In the European elections in the United Kingdom in 2009 he was again the top regional candidate of his party and was able to win another mandate. In the election for UKIP party leader in 2009, he was fourth out of five candidates.

In the European Parliament, Nattrass, like the other UKIP members, was a member of the EU-skeptical Independence and Democracy (Ind / Dem) parliamentary group until 2009 , after which the new parliamentary group Europe of Freedom and Democracy (EFD). On June 23, 2010, however, he announced that he was leaving the parliamentary group, as the faction was not clearly enough for Great Britain to leave the EU. However, he said he wanted to remain a member of UKIP. Nattrass sits on the Committee on Transport and Tourism . In December 2012 he rejoined the EVS. After he was no longer nominated by UKIP for the 2014 European elections , he left the parliamentary group in September 2013 and this time also the party.

With the re-establishment of An Independence from Europe , he ran for the 2014 European elections . The party received 1.4% of the vote, but no mandate in the European Parliament.
