Ana-Maria Rizzuto

Ana-Maria Rizzuto (born December 23, 1932 ) is an Argentine psychoanalyst . She was best known for her clinical study "The Birth of the Living God", which is considered the standard work in the psychology of religion .

biography

Rizzuto did her medical doctorate in Córdoba , Argentina , and taught child and youth development psychology at the university there from 1960–65 . In the winter semester 1963/64 she taught "Pastoral Anthropology " in the Catholic seminary in Cordoba . This gave Rizzuto the impetus to undertake a clinical study in the field of the psychology of religion , since in her research she found many theories on the psychology of religion and clinical studies on "observable processes", but no clinical studies on the unconscious and hidden formation of the representation of God. The theories on the psychology of religion that emerged from this are influenced by the psychoanalytical current of object relationship theory .

Rizzuto emigrated to the USA . There she also undertook the investigations for the study "The Birth of the Living God". At the time she worked in different clinics, including a. she was "Clinical Professor of Psychiatry" in the "Tufts Medical School". She held this position until 1991. In 1987 Rizzuto was a visiting lecturer in the psychology of religion at Harvard theological faculty . In 2005 she is a Supervising Analyst at the New England Psychoanalytic Institute, East (PINE). She is a member of both the American and the international psychoanalytic community, the CAPS (Center for Advanced Psychoanalytic Studies). She has been running a private psychoanalytic practice in Brookline , Massachusetts , since 2005 .
