Ana Seixas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ana Seixas is a politician from East Timor .

Seixas was in the 2001 elections, one of our list of space Socialist Party of Timor (PST) elected to the Constituent Assembly. It was the only seat the PST won.

But when the assembly began work, Seixas resigned on the first day and left her seat to the second list, PST chairman Pedro dos Mártires da Costa . She justified her waiver with the fact that she could not adequately represent the views of the party. There is speculation that the PST put pressure on Seixas. Women's rights activists considered challenging the case legally because women were guaranteed a fixed share in the party lists in order to guarantee them an appropriate participation. The PST was also accused of trying to address female voters in particular with a female top candidate, but excluding women from political power. In 2006, PST General Secretary Avelino Coelho da Silva declared that Seixas was the party's best candidate because of her experience in the East Timorese women's network Rede Feto. But she gave up for family and health reasons. But Coelho did not explain why she ran as the top candidate anyway.

In the new elections in June 2007 , Seixas took 42nd place for the Congresso Nacional da Reconstrução Timorense (CNRT), but was not given a seat. Costa, who was also standing for the CNRT, came back to the East Timorese national parliament in 9th place .
