Anamnesis group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anamnesis groups are student groups that have emerged as part of medical training . In some cities they are firmly integrated into the university curriculum, in some cities everything is on a voluntary basis.

Working method

Seven to fifteen students (from different semesters, medicine and possibly psychology) and two student tutors meet to discuss anamnesis with a patient from the university clinics. The respective interviewer from the group rotates for each appointment. After the discussion with the patient, the interviewer receives feedback from the group and subsequently everything that concerns the group can be discussed: coping with illness, psychosomatics , dealing with people, dealing with one's own feelings, dealing with illness and death, etc. The current patient often offers ample entry opportunities. Often the very personal issues in the group develop a strong, friendly trust among the participants, which prompts many students to visit the anamnesis group over several semesters. The meetings usually take place weekly, but there are also models with workshop days on a specific topic, where speakers are also invited to give presentations.

The anamnesis groups have made it their goal to capture the patient in his bio-psycho-social wholeness. With this understanding, the student can improve his instinct in dealing with patients and develop suitable coping strategies for himself .

Development of the anamnesis groups

The first anamnesis group was in Ulm in 1969 . The local psychosomaticist Thure von Uexküll campaigned for a medicine that not only sees and understands the illness, but also the sick person. One of his interns , Wolfram Schüffel (later Professor of Psychosomatics in Marburg ), introduced regular patient meetings with students, in which patients were seen and discussed according to a holistic approach. In 1987 the first Austrian anamnesis groups were set up in Vienna . Today there are anamnesis groups at all three Austrian medical faculties, at over 15 faculties in Germany and, since 2004, also in Denmark.

International dialogue

International and multidisciplinary exchange are essential characteristics of the anamnesis groups. In 1993, the anamnesis groups in Vienna opened up to students of psychology for the first time, and in 1999 to cultural and social anthropology, linguistics and special and curative education.

The May meeting of the anamnesis groups, which takes place annually in the month in question, has established itself as a joint international forum. This student conference now changes its venue every year and is organized by the resident tutors and participants from the respective host anamnesis groups. The May meeting took place in Marburg in 2011, Dresden in 2012, Aachen in 2013, Graz in 2014 and Vienna in 2015. The May meeting 2016 will take place in Homburg / Saarbrücken.

A tutor training course also takes place annually, which is intended to enable the prospective tutors to receive thorough training.

The yearbook POM - yearbook for patient-oriented medical training was published annually for a long time with changing editors. The 27th edition was published in May 2010 by the Anamnesegruppen Leipzig.
