The Anaplasmataceae are a family of Gram- negative bacteria . They belong to the order of the Rickettsiales , which mainly contains obligate intracellular parasitic bacteria. Accordingly, one finds many pathogens among the Anaplasmataceae.

The species Cowdria ruminantium , which was previously assigned to Anaplasmataceae, is now counted as a species of the genus Ehrlichia .

They also include the earlier Ehrlichiaceae family.
