Prepodobna Anastasija Srpska ( Serbian - Cyrillic Преподобна Анастасија Српска ; † June 21, 1200 ) is a Serbian Orthodox saint. Their holiday is June 22nd, which is observed on July 5th according to the Gregorian calendar.

Life

Her worldly name was Ana. Since Stefan Nemanja was the founder of a new dynasty and only known under the name Nemanja or Stefan Nemanja, she is also called Ana Nemanjina (Nemanjas Ana). She was the wife of the Serbian Großžupan Stefan Nemanja and mother of the sons Vukan Nemanjić , Stefan Nemanjić and Rastko Nemanjić . Some historians believe that she still gave birth to daughters, the exact number of which is unknown. This incident as well as her and her family's origins cannot be properly verified due to a lack of sources. Around 1196 she entered the monastery of the Holy Mother of God (Serbian: manastir Sv. Bogorodice) near Kuršumlija under the name Anastasija. Later she was probably in the Studenica monastery where she was buried or reburied there after her death. The exact year of death, unlike the date and month, is unknown; the majority of historians consider the year 1199 or 1200 to be the most likely. For a long time it was not clear whether these were really the bones of Saint Anastasija Srpska in the Studenica monastery. The latest studies are said to have largely dispelled the doubts. In the same year 1196 her husband Stefan Nemanja became a monk near the town of Ras in the church of St. Peter and Paul under the name Simeon, who then moved to Hilandar monastery around 1198 . She is one of six female saints in the Serbian Orthodox Church.
