Anchorage Island (from English anchorage 'anchorage' ) is an island off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located in the group of Léonie Islands 1.1 km southeast of Lagoon Island off the southeast coast of Adelaide Island .
It was discovered during the Fifth French Antarctic Expedition , led by polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot . It was named, however, by participants in the British Graham Land Expedition , led by the Australian polar explorer John Rymill , who visited the island in February 1936.
