features

Anchusa cespitosa is a perennial cushion shrub or a cushion dwarf shrub . The species is small, densely grassed, cushion-forming, woody at the base, covered with adjacent bristles and reaches heights of growth of 1 to 10 centimeters. The leaves are 2 to 5 centimeters in size. The wraps are single-flowered. The calyx lobes are blunt. The coronet has a diameter of 10 to 13 millimeters and is deep blue. The Klausen are 2.5 × 3.5 millimeters in size and hemispherical or wider than long.

The flowering period extends from June to September.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

Occurrence

Anchusa cespitosa is endemic to Crete in the prefecture of Chania. The species grows in the Lefka Ori in hedgehog cushion heaths and sinkholes on limestone at altitudes of (1200) 1600 to 2250 meters.
