The Ancient Forest / Chun T'oh Whudujut Provincial Park is a 11,190  ha large provincial park in Canada's British Columbia . The park, with its stock of primary forest and very old giant trees of life (called "Western Red Cedar" in English), was founded in 2016 and is located a little more than 110 kilometers west of Prince George in the Fraser-Fort George Regional District .

The park stretches north and south of British Columbia Highway 16 , which is part of the northern branch of the Trans-Canada Highway system as the Yellowhead Highway . In the northeast, the park borders the Fraser River . The park is a category II protected area ( national park ).

history

As with almost all provincial parks in British Columbia, this one was also the hunting and fishing area of ​​various First Nations tribes , here the Lheidli T'enneh belonging to the Dakelh , before the area was colonized by European immigrants. The park was officially established on May 19, 2016 and is currently the youngest of the Provincial Parks in British Columbia .

The park has no essential tourist infrastructure. It is not allowed to stay overnight in the park.

Neighboring parks and protected areas

To the north of the park borders the 685 hectare Ancient Forest / Chun T'oh Whudujut Protected Area . To the east, Slim Creek Provincial Park is the closest provincial park, and to the west, this is the Sugarbowl-Grizzly Den Park and Protected Area . None of these parks have any essential tourist infrastructure. The closest park with tourist infrastructure is Purden Lake Provincial Park, even further west .
