Andal Ampatuan junior

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Andal Ampatuan junior was the mayor of Datu Unsay City in the Philippine province of Maguindanao and the son of the governor of that province, Andal Ampatuan senior. He was arrested as the prime suspect in connection with the Maguindanao massacre in late November 2009 .

The background to this is the allegation that on November 23, 2009, he ordered the bloody attack on the car convoy of the Vice Mayor of Buluan , Esmael Mangudadatu . This should be prevented from submitting his candidacy for the gubernatorial election in May 2010. 58 people were killed in the attack, including 32 journalists . Ampatuan was also a candidate for the gubernatorial elections in Maguindanao.

Andal Ampatuan denied any guilt. Ampatuan's trial began on September 8, 2010. In addition to him, 195 other people were charged.

Ampatuan's brother, Zaldy Ampatuan, is the governor of the Muslim Mindanao Autonomous Region . He himself was a member of the ruling party Lakas-Kampi-CMD , which includes President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo , but was dismissed as a result of the incidents by party chairman and defense minister Gilberto Teodoro .
