The Andean Nightjar ( Lurocalis rufiventris ) is a species of bird from the nightjar family (Caprimulgidae).
It was previously considered to belong to the banded night swallow ( Lurocalis semitorquatus ).
It occurs in the Sierra de Perijá , in Colombia , Venezuela and south to Ecuador , Peru to Bolivia .
Their distribution area includes mountainous rainforests , cloud and cloud forests , secondary forests and forest edges from 1650 to 3000 m altitude.
description
The Andean night swallow is 25–26 cm tall and weighs about 116 g. The sexes hardly differ. The top is speckled dark brown with reddish brown and yellowish brown spots. Except for a white throat band, there is no white on the tail or wings. The wing tips rise above the tips of the tail.
voice
The call of the male is described as a steady or sloping “kwa kwa”, mostly in flight.
Way of life
The diet consists of insects that are hunted in the treetops. The nightjar is crepuscular .
The breeding season is not known.
Hazardous situation
The Andennachtschwalbe is considered not to be endangered ( least concern ).
