André Adam (sociologist)

André Clément Henri Adam (born July 30, 1911 in Saint-Lô , † June 29, 1991 in Veulettes-sur-Mer ) was a French sociologist and ethnologist .

The graduate of an École normal supérieure completed his studies in 1935 with a diploma and in 1936 with the Agrégation ; until 1968 habilitation he did at the Sorbonne . There he became professor of social sciences in 1970.

His main focus was on the ethnology and sociology of the Maghreb ; he was particularly interested in questions of acculturation and settlement sociology .
