André Félibien

André Félibien, Sieur des Avaux et de Javercy (* May 1619 in Chartres ; † June 11, 1695 in Paris ) was a French architect and art theorist .

Life

Félibien is considered to be the founder of art theory in France at the time of Louis XIV. After the reorganization of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture by Jean-Baptiste Colbert , Félibien was appointed as its honorary member ( conseiller honoraire ), responsible for writing down internal discussions. In 1669 he published the minutes of the meeting of the previous year, together with advice to the artists, without the authorization of the academy members.
