André Hughes (born January 1, 1985 in Hochdahl ) is a German baseball player .

André Hughes plays since 2002 in Solingen club Solingen Alligators , which he ascended into the 1. Bundesliga of 2002. Before that he played with the "Hochdahl Neanderthals". He plays as a left-hander in the position of the thrower (Left hand Pitcher (LHP)). He is a sports soldier with the sports promotion company.

In the first Bundesliga season of the Solingen Alligators in 2003, André still played predominantly as a so-called relief pitcher and achieved an ERA (earned run average) of 4.68 with 2 wins and 2 losses. Since 2004 he has been the so-called Starting Pitcher of the Solingen Alligators, and in 2004 he achieved 4 wins and 4 losses, ERA 3.88. The success of the alligators can also be seen in the statistics of André Hughes: 2005: 10 wins and 2 losses, ERA 2.57; 2006 (when the Alligators became German champions): 10 wins and 1 loss, ERA 1.41; 2007: 11 wins and 1 loss, ERA 1.47; 2008: 11 wins and 1 loss, ERA 1.79 (data always refer to the regular season, without playoffs).

In winter 2008/2009 André Hughes announced his move to the Dutch professional league with Mr. Cocker HCAW in Bussum .

Even if his fastball now regularly reaches a speed of 85–86 mph (miles per hour) (as of the end of 2008), he is mainly feared because of the spin on his throws.

André Hughes has been part of the German national team since 2005/2006. After numerous appearances in international tournaments and European championships, he was one of the starting pitchers of the national team at the 2007 World Cup and the 2008 Olympic qualification. He described his performance at the 2008 Olympic qualification in Taiwan against Taiwan when he played the Taiwanese professionals in front of over 30,000 spectators as a personal career highlight held over 7 innings at only 2 points. When he was replaced, Hughes received a standing ovation from the Taiwanese crowd.

André Hughes is 1.93 m tall and, according to his own statements, weighs 95 kg.
