Andrés Martínez Trueba

Andrés Martínez Trueba (born February 11, 1884 in Montevideo , † December 19, 1959 ibid) was a Uruguayan politician of the Partido Colorado . From March 1, 1951 to March 1, 1952 he was President of Uruguay. Then he was from March 1, 1952 to March 1, 1955 the first chairman of the Consejo Nacional de Gobierno (National Council).

Andrés Martínez Trueba studied chemistry at the Universidad de la República . Martínez Trueba was the mayor of Montevideo. Martínez Trueba was President of Banco Hipotecario del Uruguay from 1932 and 1943 to 1946 . In the presidential and parliamentary elections of 1950 Andrés Martínez Trueba was able to prevail.

He became the 26th constitutional president of Uruguay. In 1952, a constitutional amendment confirmed by referendum abolished the presidency and transferred government power to a nine-member National Council (the Consejo Nacional de Gobierno), with Trueba becoming the first chairman of the council.
