Andrés Waissbluth

Andrés Waissbluth (born March 10, 1973 in Wisconsin , USA ) is a Chilean film director and screenwriter .

Waissbluth was born in Wisconsin, where his parents lived in exile during the Pinochet dictatorship , but spent his childhood in Mexico before the family was allowed to return to Chile. In his home country he studied at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile , a private elite Catholic university in Santiago de Chile . In 1996 he completed a degree in directing at the renowned Cuban International Academy for Film and Television (EICTV) in San Antonio de los Baños .

His first works were short films, some of which were shown at film festivals and also received awards. His first own feature film Los Debutantes , on the other hand, was shown successfully in Chile and in 2004 was Chile's official candidate for an Oscar nomination in the category “ Best Foreign Language Film ”.
