The International College for Film and Television ( Spanish : Escuela Internacional de Cine y TV , EICTV ) is a film school founded in 1985 in San Antonio de los Baños , about 30 kilometers southeast of Havana , Cuba .
EICTV is an independent non-governmental organization run by the Fundación del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano (FNCL), a foundation for the new Latin American cinema, whose president from the beginning until his death in April 2014 was Gabriel García Márquez .
history
The project received decisive impetus from the Colombian writer and Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez . The school was inaugurated on December 15, 1986 . Its first director was the Argentine filmmaker Fernando Birri , one of the founders of the New Latin American Film . The current interim director has been the Cuban sound engineer Jerónimo Labrada since July 2013 .
Education
Part of the concept of the film school is that lessons are given by active filmmakers. In addition to the regular courses, there are numerous workshops (Taller) on individual topics in film production . There are exchange programs to Germany with the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy and the Cologne Media Academy .
