Andrea E. Abele

Andrea E. Abele-Brehm (also Andrea E. Abele for publications ; born February 26, 1950 in Hamm ) is a German social psychologist and until 2016 holder of the chair for social psychology at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.

Life

Andrea Abele-Brehm graduated from the humanistic Schönborn-Gymnasium in Bruchsal in 1968. She studied psychology, sociology and history in Konstanz and received her doctorate there with a doctoral scholarship from the state of Baden-Württemberg in 1976 with a thesis on psychological interactionism (supervisor: Prof. Fisch). After several short research stays in Great Britain and the USA, she took on a research assistant position at Bielefeld University (Prof. Streufert's group) and completed her habilitation there in 1982. From 1982 to 1984 she held a professorship for social psychology at Bielefeld University. In 1984 she accepted a professorship for social psychology and applied social psychology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In the course of defensive negotiations, her professorship was expanded in 1994 to a chair for social psychology and gender research. Andrea Abele-Brehm has been a Senior Fellow at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg since October 2016.

At the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg, Andrea Abele-Brehm was university women's representative from 1991 to 1995, university ombudswoman from 2002 to 2012, member of the board of the interdisciplinary center for labor market and the world of work from 2008 to 2013 and chair of the “Family and Science” association from 2007 to 2013.

Andrea Abele-Brehm was an elected member of the Psychology Review Board of the German Research Foundation from 2012 to 2014, Vice President from 2012 to 2014 and President of the German Society for Psychology from 2014 to 2016 .

She is a member of numerous scientific advisory boards and editorial boards.
