Andrea Gerster

Andrea Gerster (born April 21, 1959 ) is a Swiss writer, cultural mediator and former journalist.

Life

Gerster worked for many years as a journalist for daily newspapers and magazines before she only turned to literary writing in 2002. From 2006 to 2011 she organized the literary event series Wort und ... in Arbon . As part of the Gerster & Nüssli duo , she appeared with the program “Spoken Word and Live Drawing” and in art contexts with the performance “Side Effects”. She also wrote plays and text installations for art exhibitions. She has published six novels (half of them for the target group children and youth), three volumes of short stories and numerous short stories in literary magazines and anthologies .

From 2016 to the end of 2017 she was full-time responsible for the program at the Liechtenstein Literature House . Then she taught creative writing in the focus of schoolhouse novels and with a writers class at the grammar school in Feldkirch . She has been a member of the Art Commission of the State of Vorarlberg since 2019 .

At the Bachmann Prize competition 2019 she read the text “I can do that” at the invitation of Hildegard Elisabeth Keller .

She lives and works in Eastern Switzerland and Vorarlberg.
