Andrea Magi (* 14. July 1966 in Pesaro , Italy ) is a former boxer in the light heavyweight and multiple world title contender.

Career

Amateur career

Magi was quite successful as an amateur. He was able to win the Italian championships three times and finish second five times. Twice due to injuries.

As an amateur, he played 92 fights, of which he won 87, lost four and left one a draw.

Professional career

Magi's opponents were all unknown and neither in the near future nor in the distant future would they get a title or fight for one. On April 30, 1993 , he met Sylvester White.

In the autumn of the same year he was able to fight against Leeonzer Barber for the title of the WBO . Despite Magi's excellent performances in previous fights, Barber was a big favorite. None of the 50 specialists relied on Magi, and trade magazines and even Italian television believed in a bitter defeat for the Italian boxer. Barber only lived up to his favorite role to a limited extent. Although he was able to dominate the up-and-coming Magi from round seven, he also had to accept criticism, as Magi was increasingly able to tire the barber, who is considered to be more light-footed, with hard counter hits. So it was that Barber came out of the fight rather marked. Until the point verdict, which unanimously voted for Barber, many critics thought the fight would end in a draw. As Barber said in a later interview, he thought so too. From this fight at the latest, Magi became more and more popular in the press.

In 1994 IBF champion Henry Maske challenged Magi. The fight took place on June 4, 1994 in Dortmund and was not completely sold out. Mask could box out Magi.

In 1998 there was a fight against the undefeated Poland Dariusz Michalczewski , who held the titles according to the version of the WBA , IBF and WBO . He had won this against Leeonzer Barber in 1994 and against Virgil Hill in 1997 and was considered the undisputed number 1 in the light heavyweight division alongside Roy Jones junior after winning victories against them and boxers like Graciano Rocchigiani . Against this, Magi showed himself to be strong, but could not keep up with the champion and was classified as "incapacitated" in the fourth round and taken out of the fight.

Shortly afterwards he ended his career.
