Andrea Mormanno

Andrea Mormanno (* in the 15th or 16th century; † in the 16th or 17th century) was an Italian architect.

Life and works

Mormanno was the city architect of Naples from 1564 to 1573 . Between 1563 and 1568 he built a road from Naples to Salerno including a bridge over the Molina, and in 1573 the Palazzo de Tomar .

According to Ernest Lémonons, he is said to have been the son of the architect and organ builder Giovanni Donadio di Mormanno , who also worked in Naples. His (Andreas) daughter Diana is said to have married Giovan Francesco de Palma in 1526 , a pupil of his father, who had also taken on the nickname Mormanno after his teacher and foster father.

According to other sources, Diana was the daughter of Giovanni Donadio di Mormannos and di Palma became his son-in-law in 1526. According to the information provided there, Mormanno worked for the municipality of Naples until the end of 1572 and was known for building the road.
