Andrea Rost (born June 15, 1962 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Andrea Rost studied singing in Budapest at the Franz Liszt Music Academy as a student of Zsolt Bende . While still a student, she made her debut at the Hungarian State Opera in 1989 as Julia in the opera Roméo et Juliette by Charles François Gounod .

In 1991 she became a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera , where she appeared as Violetta and Zerlina , among others . In 1992 she made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in the opera Z Mrtvého Domu . In 1994 she made an acclaimed appearance as Gilda at the premiere of Rigoletto at La Scala in Milan . Since then she has been a regular guest at the major opera houses around the world and is particularly successful in her favorite roles as Gilda, Lucia and Violetta.

Lately she has also increasingly devoted herself to songs from her Hungarian homeland. Together with Izabella Simon , who accompanies her on the piano, Andrea Rost interprets songs by well-known Hungarian composers such as Béla Bartók and Zoltán Kodály .
