Andrea Zietzschmann (* 1970 in Schwenningen ) is a German cultural manager.

Life and career

family

Zietzschmann comes from a musical family and was raised Protestant . Her grandmother was an opera singer and her father - a business economist - a good piano player. Zietzschmann has been the mother of a daughter since 2006.

Career

Zietzschmann began to learn the violin at the age of eight. She studied musicology , business administration and art history in Freiburg, Vienna and Hamburg . After completing her Master of Arts degree , she worked alongside her studies with the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra , Westdeutscher Rundfunk , the Stuttgart State Opera and the Hamburg State Opera . In 1997 she founded the Mahler Chamber Orchestra together with Claudio Abbado . She then directed the Mahler Chamber Orchestra from 1997 to 2003. In 2003 she was orchestra director at Hessischer Rundfunk until 2008. Then until 2013 she was music director at Hessischer Rundfunk . From 2013 to 2017 she was the manager of the four NDR orchestras and the NDR concert series. Since September 1, 2017, she has been the director of the Berlin Philharmonic Foundation.
