Andreas Bang-Haas (born December 6, 1846 in Horsens , Denmark; † February 7, 1925 in Dresden ) was a Danish entomologist ( entomologist ) and insect trader.

Life

Andreas Bang-Haas mainly dealt with small butterflies . In 1879 he joined Otto Staudinger's insect shop in Dresden, married Staudinger's daughter in 1880 and became a co-owner of the company in 1884 or 1887. In 1884 the Entomological Institute had to move to the larger "Villa Sphinx" built especially for this purpose. After another ten years, a two-story wing was added. From the mid-1880s onwards, Staudinger placed the management of the company more and more in Bang-Haas' hands and from then on concentrated entirely on taxonomic work . The company "Staudinger & Bang-Haas" was continued after Staudinger's death in 1900 by Andreas Bang-Haas. In 1913 it passed to his son Otto Bang-Haas , who was henceforth the sole owner. The now world-famous company existed until after the Second World War and was dissolved on September 30, 1948.

Remaining collection

The private collection of Danish small butterflies went to the Copenhagen Zoological Museum in 1880 .
