Andreas Borcholte

Andreas Borcholte (* 1970 in Hamburg ) is a German film and music critic who has been head of the culture department for Spiegel Online since 2001 .

Life

Andreas Borcholte, born in Hamburg in 1970, wrote as a freelance journalist for various newspapers and magazines such as Prinz , Gala and Musikexpress while studying sociology at the University of Hamburg . After dropping out of his studies, he became music editor at the Hamburger Morgenpost in 1997 , where he was in charge of the daily pop page, and then editor at the German edition of Rolling Stone . Since May 2000 he has been culture editor at Spiegel Online , since June 2001 head of the culture department there. In this role he also writes about pop, cinema and social issues. In the music column “Abgehört”, which he launched in 2001 as head of the cultural department, he discusses new records every week.

Borcholte moved to Berlin in 2012 and has been working as a writer in Spiegel's capital office ever since . In November 2019, Borcholte was one of the co-signers of an appeal to protect press freedom . This was directed against right-wing extremist agitation against several journalists. The occasion was the call by the NPD for a demonstration in Hanover at the end of November 2019 against journalists and their critical reporting.
