Andreas Henke

Andreas Henke (born July 27, 1962 in Dingelstedt ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). From 2007 to 2020 he was Lord Mayor of the district town of Halberstadt .

Life

After graduating from EOS “Bertolt Brecht” in Halberstadt, Henke studied from 1981 to 1984 at the Police College of the Ministry of the Interior in Dresden . After graduating as a university engineering economist, he joined the police force in Leipzig . In 1985 he moved to management positions at Stadtwirtschaft Halberstadt and a year later to Kraftverkehr Halberstadt, where he worked until 1991.

politics

Henke was a member of the SED until 1990, a member of the PDS from 1990 to 2007 and has been a member of the Die Linke party since 2007. From 1990 to 2007 he was a member of the Halberstadt District Council and since 1999 he has been a member of the Halberstadt City Council.

In the election for Mayor of Halberstadt on September 24, 2006, Henke achieved the best result with 34.2% of the vote, but clearly missed the absolute majority. In the runoff election on October 8, 2006, which was then due, he clearly prevailed with 72.5% against his opponent Hans-Georg Busch (SPD), who scored 27.5%.

In the Mayor election on September 1, 2013, Henke was re-elected in the first ballot with 53.65% of the vote; his strongest competitor Daniel Szarata (CDU) achieved 34.00%. On July 19, 2020, Andreas Henke lost to Daniel Szarata in the mayoral election.
