Andreas Löschel

Andreas Löschel (* 1971 ) is a German economist who holds the chair for microeconomics, especially energy and resource economics, at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . He is director at the Center for Applied Economic Research Münster (CAWM). The FAZ economists ranking 2017 ranks him among the 50 most influential economists in Germany.

education and profession

Löschel studied economics at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg and Wayne State University in Detroit . In 2003 a doctorate followed at the University of Mannheim (summa cum laude). Löschel completed his habilitation in 2009 at the University of Oldenburg .

Since 2011 Löschel has been chairman of the expert commission on the monitoring process "Energy of the Future" of the federal government and since 2017 an elected member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering . He is also part of the Energy Transition Research Forum of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and part of the Federal Government's “Energy Systems of the Future” board of trustees. Löschel is lead author of Working Group 3 on the 6th IPCC Assessment Report and the 5th Assessment Report of the IPCC. Löschel has been a Senior Researcher at the Center for European Economic Research (ZEW) since 2005 , where he was head of the research area “Environmental and Resource Economics , Environmental Management” between 2007 and 2014. From 2010 to 2014 he was Professor of Economics with a focus on environmental and resource economics at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . Löschel has been advising Aurora Energy Research Limited since 2015. He was a scholarship holder of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom .

Löschel's research interests are applied microeconomics, in particular questions of energy and climate economics.

He was visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (2003), Stanford University (2005), Australian National University (ANU) (2010, 2011), Beijing Tsinghua University (2013), Vigo University and the University of Oxford and the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. Löschel has been visiting professor at the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing since 2013.
