architecture

The church was built according to plans by the architects Ernst Görcke and Ludwig Müller from the Protestant community. The cubic structure consists of the ground floor with community rooms and the church room above, which is covered with a gable roof. The bell tower is located on the southwest side. A spacious outside staircase, which has since been converted to make it barrier-free with an elevator, leads from a forecourt in the west via a foyer into the hall church.

The interior is characterized by the stained glass windows on the south wall. They extend over the entire height of nine meters and are held in place by reinforced concrete columns at a distance of three meters. The design by Hermann Göpfert is characterized by non-figurative, swinging curves of colored glasses that rise towards the choir. The stained glass windows were made by Hans Bernd Gossel , who put the four centimeter thick chunks of glass in concrete ribs.

An arched stucco ceiling spans the interior. For acoustic reasons, it has irregular, artistically designed openings. In order to statically stiffen the church building, construction elements made of concrete are arranged across the north wall. Similar to a side aisle, they form a corridor that leads to the baptismal font. There is space for around 440 people on the benches. The Andreas Church is a listed building.

Equipment and bell

The shell limestone altar and the font are by Hans Steinbrenner . The crucifix and altar candlesticks were created by Gerda Spangenberg . On the gallery is an organ from the Hillebrand Brothers Orgelbau with 23 registers from 1988. Three bronze bells from the Rincker bell and art foundry from 1959 sound in the tones es '(1420 kg, memorial bell ), f' (1024 kg, Peace bell ) and as' (584 kg, prayer bell ).

Church and History

The Andreasgemeinde was founded in 1953 as the second Protestant parish in Eschersheim. The reason was the sharp increase in population due to large new housing estates in the area between Eschersheim, Dornbusch and Eckenheim. After the laying of the foundation stone for the church and the parish hall in 1954, the Diakoniestation was completed. As early as 1956, the congregation was able to use the hall on the ground floor of the later church. Originally, a weekday chapel in the entrance area of the church was connected to the nave by a grid. Today the separated room is used for community work. By 2013 the St. Andrew's Church was renovated and made accessible for the disabled.
