Andrij Jewhenowytsch Purhin ( Ukrainian Андрій Євгенович Пургін ; Russian Андрей Евгеньевич Пургин Andrei Evgenjewitsch Purgin ; born January 26, 1972 in Donetsk , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian entrepreneur and separatist . He is considered the "father of the separatist movement in eastern Ukraine". Purhin describes himself as the deputy head of government and is parliamentary speaker for the " Donetsk People's Republic ".

Before his political activism, Purhin owned a building materials trade. In 2005, as the leader of the Russian regionalists in the Donets Basin , he declared the continuity of Donbass with the Soviet republic of Donets-Krivoy Rog, which existed for a short time in February and March 1918 . Since the beginning of his political engagement, Purhin has advocated more rights for the Russian language and a separation of the Donetsk Basin from Ukraine. On April 29, 2014, he was placed on the EU sanctions list against Russian institutions, companies and individuals. In September 2014 Purhin took part in the Minsk peace negotiations.
