distribution and habitat

A. helvola is widespread in almost all of Europe, from France to Turkey and in Asia to Siberia. Not very common in southern Europe. In Germany A. helvola is widespread, frequent and not endangered in the population.

A. helvola occurs at forest edges, forest clearings, hedges and meadows. The species can also be found in residential areas, in gardens and parks.

Way of life

The species nests solitary and digs nests in the earth by itself. No preference for certain types of soil can be seen. The females collect pollen from different plants, so they are polylectic.

Parasites
