Andrew Cancio (* 21st October 1988 in Blythe , USA , as Andrew Cancio Anthony ) is an American professional boxer and current regular WBA world champion in the super featherweight division .

Professional career

Cancio made his debut with the professionals on March 23, 2006 in Mexico against home boxer Juan Velazquez and reached only a draw over four rounds.

In September 2016 he competed at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington , Texas , in a 10-round fight against his compatriot Joseph Diaz for the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) championship and was defeated by TKo in the 9. Round.

On June 12, 2018, Cancio won the vacant WBA intercontinental title when he defeated the Kazakh Aidar Sharibayev in the last round by a technical knockout in a 10-round fight.

On February 9 of the following year, El Chango , Cancio's battle name, achieved something sensational: In the Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Palm Springs , California, he boxed against the regular WBA world champion Alberto Machado for his belt. Completely surprisingly, Cancio Machado knocked out in round 4 and thus won the regular World Championship title of the WBA organization.
