Andrew Lenard
Andrew Lenard (born July 18, 1927 in Balmazújváros , Hungary ) is an American mathematical physicist.
Lenard studied at the University of Iowa with a bachelor's degree in 1949 and his doctorate in 1953 under Josef-Maria Jauch (Inner Bremsstrahlung in Mu-Meson Decay). As a post-doctoral student he was at Columbia University from 1955 to 1957 and from 1957 to 1965 he was at Princeton University's Plasma Physics Laboratory . From 1966 he was a professor of mathematical physics at Indiana University .
Lenard published pioneering work with Freeman Dyson in 1967/68 on the question of the stability of matter (they proved that the Pauli principle is essentially responsible for this and not electrostatic forces).
From 1965 to 1967 and 1972/73 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study . In 1979/80 he was at IHES .
