Andries Dirk Copier
AD Copier (born January 11, 1901 in Leerdam , † December 19, 1991 in Wassenaar ) was the most famous Dutch designer of decorative and utility objects made of glass and porcelain .
Life
Andries Dirk Copier joined the Leerdam glass factory in 1914 at the age of 13, to which he was a key figure until 1970. From 1917 to 1919 he was trained at the technical school for typography in Utrecht. From 1920 to 1925 he studied at the Rotterdam Art Academy . From 1923 he designed utility glasses and Unica for the Leerdam glass factory. In 1940 he founded the Leerdam Glass School and took over its management. In 1950/51 he also headed the Amsterdam School of Applied Arts (later the Gerrit Rietveld Academie ). In addition to glasses, Copier also designed porcelain, for example for the Eschenbach porcelain factory, and textiles.
