Andrus Kallastu (born April 17, 1967 in Pärnu ) is an Estonian conductor and composer .

Life and music

Andrus Kallastu studied piano, conducting and composition at the Tallinn Conservatory from 1985 to 1990 and from 1991 at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki , which he graduated in 1999. Since then he has worked as a freelance composer and conductor in Estonia .

Andrus Kallastu has been artistic director of the opera house in the western Estonian city of Pärnu since 1993 . Since 2003 he has been director of the Pärnu Days for Contemporary Music ( Estonian Pärnu Nüüdismuusika Päevad ).

Private life

Andrus Kallastu is married to the Estonian soprano Kai Kallastu (* 1970). The couple have four children.
