Andrzej Dobrowolski

Andrzej Dobrowolski (born September 9, 1921 in Lemberg ; † August 8, 1990 in Graz ) was a Polish composer and music teacher .

During the German occupation at the Warsaw Conservatory, Dobrowolski studied organ with Bronisław Rutkowski , clarinet with Ludwik Kurkiewicz and singing with Stefan Belina-Skupowski , from 1945 to 1951 at the Krakow Music Academy with Stefania Łobaczewska and composition with Artur Malawski . He also taught music theory from 1947 to 1954 at the State Music Academy and the State Music Academy in Kraków .

From 1954 to 1954 he taught music theory at the Warsaw School of Music , where he has also directed a composition class since 1964. In 1976 he became a full professor for composition and electronic music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz , and in 1979 dean of the faculty for composition, conducting and music theory.

In addition to musicians such as Włodzimierz Kotoński , Zbigniew Wiszniewski and Bogusław Schaeffer, he worked for the Experimental Studio of the Polish Radio, which was founded in 1958 as one of the first in the world. In 1971 he was awarded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and in 1972 by the Polish Composers' Association for his life's work. In 1990 he received the Johann Joseph Fux Music Prize from the provincial government of Styria.
