Andrzej Wróblewski

Andrzej Wróblewski (born June 15, 1927 in Vilnius ; † March 23, 1957 ) was a Polish painter and author .

life and work

Andrzej Wróblewski was born in Vilnius as the son of the lawyer Bronisław Wróblewski and the painter and graphic artist Krystyna Wróblewska. His artistic talent was discovered and promoted as a child, but his school development was interrupted by the German attack on Poland , whereupon his mother taught him woodcut . After the end of World War II , the family moved to Krakow. Wróblewski studied sculpture and painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow from 1945 to 1952 under Zygmunt Radnicki , Zbigniew Pronaszko , Hanna Rudzka-Cybisowa and Jerzy Fedkowicz . At the same time (1945–1948) he studied art history at the Jagiellonian University . He was the author of numerous articles in various magazines. Wróblewski died on a hike through the Tatra Mountains , which is also the subject of numerous paintings.

To the Margin and Back was the first comprehensive solo exhibition outside Poland. It took place in 2010 at the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven. Magdalena Ziółkowska, one of the founders of the Andrzej Wróblewski Foundation , made the exhibition possible. Several of his oil paintings were exhibited at documenta 14 . "By opposing the scheme of Polish colorism , which was firmly established in the art academies of his time, and at the same time trying to approximate the new doctrine of Socialist Realism , Wróblewski developed an original and individual visual language."
