Angela Melitopoulos

Angela Melitopoulos (* 1961 in Munich ) is a German installation , video and sound artist .

life and work

Angela Melitopoulos studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Nam June Paik and received her Ph.D. at Goldsmiths, University of London . She works with various political networks in Paris, Italy, Turkey and Germany. Melitopoulos has taught at various universities, including the Cologne Academy of Media Arts , the University of Potsdam and the Technical University of the Middle East . She followed a call as a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen.

Her video works, installations and sound works focus on memory, time, political geography , migration and mobility.

She published texts, which she wrote mainly in collaboration with Maurizio Lazzarato , with whom she also often works on film. Her work has received awards since 1985 and has been shown at international film festivals, including the Berlin International Film Festival , Locarno Festival , Rotterdam International Film Festival , European Media Art Festival and WWV Amsterdam. She has also exhibited in museums such as the Center Georges-Pompidou , the Whitney Museum , the Kölnischer Kunstverein and the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal . Her work Crossings (2017) was shown at documenta 14 in Kassel. Further works are Passing Drama (1999), Assemblages (2010) and Déconnage (2011).
