Angelino Garzón

Angelino Garzón (born October 29, 1946 in Buga , Valle del Cauca ) is a Colombian journalist and politician . He was Vice President of Colombia from 2010 to 2014.

At the beginning of his political career, Garzón belonged to the executive committee of the Partido Comunista Colombiano and was later vice-president of the Unión Patriótica . In 1991 he was a member of the constituent national assembly of Colombia, the Asamblea Nacional Constituyente . From 2000 to 2002 he headed the Colombian Ministry of Labor and Social Security. From January 2004 to December 2007, the former union leader Garzón then took over the office of governor of the Valle del Cauca department. He also held the post of Colombian representative at the United Nations Office in Geneva . In the 2010 presidential election , he was elected Vice President alongside Juan Manuel Santos . After the 2014 election , Germán Vargas Lleras succeeded him.

Garzón suffered a heart attack on August 9, 2010, just two days after taking office as Vice President.
