On call

The Angerpikett was a small military guard in the Munich fire extinguishing equipment house on Anger (later Heumarkt, from 1886 St.-Jakobs-Platz).

The guard, consisting of 15 cavalrymen , has been reliably proven since 1808 and was officially called the “guard room in the municipal fire house on the Anger”. Their task was, on the one hand, to reinforce the main station at Schrannenplatz and, on the other hand, to quickly alert the fire fighting teams in the event of a fire. In addition to the crew quarters, there were also stables for the horses of the guard in the building.

When the Munich professional fire brigade was founded in 1879 , the building on the Anger was still used as the “main fire house”. After the new main fire station was built on Blumenstrasse in 1904 , the presence of the soldiers of the Bavarian army became superfluous due to the permanent presence of the firefighters, so the ambulance was given up.
