AnimeLab is a video-on-demand platform that specializes in anime in Australia and New Zealand and is part of Funimation .

history

AnimeLab was originally launched as a Skunkworks project by Madman Entertainment on May 28, 2014 . It replaced the Madman Screening Room. AnimeLab initially had 50 series. During the beta phase, AnimeLab streamed its series for free with no ads. Siren Visual announced on September 4, 2014 that they would be releasing titles on AnimeLab, starting with The Devil is a Part-Timer . On May 26, 2015, AnimeLab announced that the website had ended beta. In addition to the advertising-based free service, a paid subscription was introduced.

AnimeLab launched the AnimeLab On-Air program block on television in August 2016 . The block originally aired Friday night on C31 Melbourne and C44 Adelaide. The block later moved on a Monday night schedule. In August 2017 it was announced that AnimeLab will be streaming selected titles from the Adult Swims Back catalog.

On September 24, 2019, Aniplex and Sony Pictures Television announced that they were consolidating their anime video-on-demand portals with a joint venture of Funimation , the Madman Anime Group and Wakanim led by Funimation. As part of this joint venture, Funimation acquires Anime licenses for FunimationNow, AnimeLab and Wakanim.

Technical

AnimeLab's program can be viewed on a browser or app . The player is based on HTML5 . There are apps for Android (operating system) , iOS , PlayStation 3 , PlayStation 4 and Xbox One .
