Anita Gale, Baroness Gale (born November 28, 1940 in Blaenrhondda , Glamorgan ) is a British politician ( Labor Party ) and a member of the House of Lords .

Family and title

Gale was the only child of Arthur Gale and his wife Lillian Maud. She married in 1959 and divorced in 1983. On August 4, 1999, she was raised to the nobility as Baroness Gale , of Blaenrhondda in the County of Mid Glamorgan, as a Life Peeress .

Education and professional career

Gale received her education at Pontypridd Technical College. This was followed by studies at Cardiff University from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Science . In 1955/56 she worked as a seamstress, then as a saleswoman and then again as a seamstress. She joined the Labor Party in 1966 and was a works councilor for the Tailors and Garment Workers Union from 1967 to 1970 . From 1976 she devoted herself to party work, first as deputy organizer and full-time women's representative in Wales , from 1984 to 1989 as general secretary of the Welsh Labor Party . After resigning from her party offices, she was promoted to life peer as Baroness Gale of Blaenrhondda in the County of Mid Glamorgan in 1999 . In the upper house, she was a member of various committees and groups, including those for animal welfare , health and public welfare . From 2004 to 2009 she was Commissioner for Wales at the Women's National Commission . She has been Vice Chair of the South Africa Group since 2009 and President of the National Association of Old Age Pensioners of Wales since 2010 .
