In her work, the artist deals with the subject of the sea, but not in the sense of classic seascapes or illustration. Rather, it is the processes and forces inside the ocean that Anja Witt takes as inspiration for her abstract works and processes them into her own pictorial inventions. The ocean functions as a parallel universe in which, for example, currents, layers and eddies suggest associations with current events. But there are also specific topics from marine research that find their way into the work. In 2015, Anja Witt went on an expedition with researchers from GEOMAR Kiel as part of the SFB 754 on the RV Meteor to work at the interface between art and science.

Anja Witt is a member of BBK Hamburg, GEDOK Hamburg, Art and Science Collaborations (ASCI)
