Akköprü stone bridge in Ankara over the Ankara Çayı |
The Ankara Çayı is a right tributary of the Sakarya in the Turkish province of Ankara .
The Ankara Çayı arises in the center of the capital Ankara at the confluence of the Çubuk Çayı (right) and Hatip Çayı (left). The latter runs on its last kilometers in an underground concrete tube. The stone bridge Akköprü spans the Ankara Çayı about one kilometer downstream . On the western outskirts of Ankara, the Ova Çayı flows into the river from the right. The Ankara Çayı flows mainly in a westerly direction and after about 140 km flows into the Sakarya, which flows north. The river water shows a high degree of pollution.
