Thor and Rán - Faroese stamp pad by Anker Eli Petersen (2004)

Anker Eli Petersen (born June 7, 1959 in Tvøroyri , Faroe Islands ) is a Faroese graphic artist , postage stamp designer and author.

Many of the Postverk Føroya stamps come from Anker Eli's hand (this is how his name is on the stamps). Anker Eli uses the technique of collage and computer graphics . His motifs are often historical. The more recent Faroese postage stamps on Norse mythology are from him. His great artistic role models are William Heinesen and Elinborg Lützen .

Anker Eli also works as a web designer for the Faroese Post, where he designs complex pages in several languages.

As an author, AE Petersen translates old texts from Old Norse , writes children's songs and other texts for Faroese musicians. He has also illustrated many books.

His children's song Á ferð til dreymalands (On the journey to dreamland) is one of the most popular Faroese children's songs and was set to music by Terji Rasmussen in 1990 . Most recently it was performed live by Eivør Pálsdóttir , Lena Anderssen and Guðrun Sólja Jacobsen in 2006 in Tórshavn. Terji Rasmussen also set the song Ljóðsmynd (sound painting), which was chosen as the Faroese song of the 20th century . The melancholy song tells of random environmental noises and, according to Petersen's statement, was created when he “couldn't think of anything”. Both songs are found on the modern classic Terji og Føstufressar , which is considered the first professional rock-pop album in Faroese music history.
