The Annaberger Haubenstrupphuhn is a domestic chicken breed bred in 1957 in Annaberg in the Ore Mountains. The original breeds were the Chabos , the silk fowl , the Brabantians and the Appenzell Spitzhauben . The breed is only widespread in Germany, where it is very rare.
This light country hen is characterized by an imposing appearance with stocking feathers and a pointed hood. This stocking-down, together with the hood that widens towards the top, is very unusual in chicken breeds. The shaggy effect is created by a slightly rolled back curvature of the feathers.
The chicken needs a large run and shelter in this space, as it is sensitive to moisture due to the feathers.
A dwarf form does not exist.
