Annamalai Nagar ( Tamil : அண்ணாமலை நகர் Aṇṇāmalai Nakar [ ˈaɳːaːmalɛi̯ ˈnaɡər ]) is a city in the Cuddalore district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . It is a suburb of the city of Chidambaram and the location of Annamalai University . The population is around 16,000 (2011 census).
Annamalai Nagar is in the immediate vicinity of Chidambaram, around three kilometers east of the Nataraja temple . The place arose around the Annamalai University founded in 1929 and is named like this after the university founder Annamalai Chettiar (1881-1948).
