Annemarie Jacob

Annemarie Jacob (also Annemarie Pauline Frida Helene Jacob ; born January 22, 1891 in Leipzig ; † May 22, 1990 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German expressionist painter , member of the Leipzig Art Association and co-founder of the Association for New Art in Leipzig.

Life

Annemarie Jacob, b. Klemm, was born on January 22, 1891 as the third child of the accountant Rudolf Klemm (1853–1908) and his wife Helene, b. Scharff (1855–1917) born. Her brothers were the psychologist Otto Klemm (1884–1939) and the poet and publisher Wilhelm Klemm (1881–1968). Her family, who came from the bourgeoisie, loved art, music and sports. In 1911 she married Victor Jacob, an engineer who was passionate about mountain sports. The three children Gerda (1914–1993), Achim (1916–1946) and Dieter (1918–1946) resulted from the marriage. From 1944 to 1968 she lived in St. Anton am Arlberg (Austria) and from 1968 until her death in Frankfurt am Main. She was a member of the Leipzig Art Association , founded in 1837 , to which the Leipzig Museum of Fine Arts owes its creation. It was forcibly dissolved in 1946. Jacob was also co-founder of the Association for New Art in Leipzig in 1918, which specifically promoted expressionist and modern art.

Around 1914 she was a student of Otto Richard Bossert .

Work and meaning

Annemarie Jacob was an expressionist painter whose work is now being rediscovered and attracting increasing attention. In recent years various exhibitions of her work have taken place, from May 16 to June 21, 2002 in the dome hall of the Dresdner Bank Leipzig and from January 24 to April 5, 2010 in the Museum of Fine Arts in Leipzig . She also wrote poetry.
